Welcome to my quiz on Happenings, entitled, "Do You Get It?". When I first began studying Happenings a few years back, I most certainly did NOT get it. Answer the questions below without scrolling to the bottom and then check out the answers section to see how much you "get" Happenings.
Do you believe that all art and/or performance should have a meaning or purpose?
A) Of course I do. Doesn't everyone?
B) Never. Art should exist on it's own validity.
C) If the creator desires a purpose, then it should have a purpose. If not, no purpose is necessary.
D) Everyone knows the purpose of art is to pick up chicks and impress people.
Which of the following is your favorite Broadway showtune?
A) Memories from Cats...or perhaps Music of the Night from Phantom...or something from Les Mis...oh, too many choices....
B) Broadway is mindless drivel for the masses.
C) La Vie Boheme from Rent, of course.
D) Showtunes are for losers.
While reading this website, you were thinking:
A) I can use this knowledge to impress my friends.
B) This person has no clue what they are talking about.
C) I ought to stage my own happening.
D) Absolutely nothing.
When you hear the term "non-matrixed performance" you think:
A) Oh my God, not again...what is it with these people??
B) It's about damn time.
C) Interesting.
D) That was a damn good Movie...can't wait for the sequel.
What are you favorite themes to explore in your own personal art?
A) Love. Death. Sex. Life. Beauty.
B) Why must there be a theme?!
C) Possibility.
D) Money.
If you answered mostly:
A's - You don't get it at all. You are a typical member of society who only seeks to learn what is necessary to be thought well of by others. Open your mind my friend...there is so much more out there.
B's - You probably staged your own happening. Of course you get it.
C's - You get it. You are becoming enlightened and are on the path to performance art greatness - way to go!
D's - You are a Keanu Reeves want-to-be. You will never get it. End your misery now and leave this site forever.
