Mean Green Workshops
Two hundred and ninety students and 22 teachers from across the U.S. are currently in residence at the University of North Texas to participate in the 2009 Mean Green Workshops. Participants are spending from two to four weeks debating whether the federal government should substantially increase social services for those who live in poverty, and researching other topics focusing on ethical values.
The Mean Green Workshops is one of Texas' largest residential summer programs for students who are competing, or wish to compete, in high school Lincoln-Douglas and policy debate tournaments. The workshops also include a Student Congress and Public Speaking Workshop to teach students parliamentary procedure, writing and researching legislation, congressional strategy and other skills to compete in mock legislative assemblies.
