Each fall, the Petit Jean Performance Festival, co-sponsored by the University of North Texas and Capital University, takes the study of performance concepts and techniques out the classroom and into the wild.  Petit Jean State Park in Morrilton, Arkansas, provides a beautiful and unique space for exploring new ideas and meeting new colleagues in Performance.

Each year's  festival features one or two noted scholars in Performance Studies.   The speakers choose the festival's theme and present two lecture/workshops.   The guest lecturers also structure group activities for the participants.   Over the course of the festival, students work in groups with attendees from other schools and collaboratively create a group performance illustrating their understanding of the festival's theme.

Festival attendees also enjoy a variety of  group and individual performances presented by guest performers.  In smaller sessions, students present traditional or non-traditional individual performances and receive feedback from peers and critics.

Petit Jean is a truly National festival, drawing participants from Texas to New York, Louisiana to Massachusetts, and Arizona to Florida.   Outside of the lectures, attendees meet and mingle with Performance Studies faculty and students from across the country in the casual, informal atmosphere of the rustic cabins and scenic hiking trails of Petit Jean State park.
