Throughout the Middle Ages, there
was a class of musicians who were one of the most important
sources for entertainment and social commentary during their
time. However, the center for music during the middle ages was
Paris, and its golden age was the 13th century. From the rich
troubadours who wrote the songs to the talented jongleurs who
performed them, minstrels abounded in 13th century France. These
minstrels wrote and performed songs, but also juggled, danced,
performed dramas, and did anything else they could to entertain
the public. Click on the topics along the side to find out more
about this wonderful and entertaining part of musical and dramatic
history.
