Preserving the Culture

Return to Confederados Main Page

It's a little bit Southern hospitality with a lot of Latin Warmth. For nearly a century and a half the descendents of the original Confederate emigres have maintained their unique cultural identity.

The descendents of the Confederados have spread throughout Brazil. Evidence of their heritage can still be found, especially in the area around Americana, which is home to a chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) who call themselves "Os Confederados".

It was formed in 1994 by these "Southerners" in Brazil who want to retain their heritage. The organization hosts an annual party at the Campo Cemetery every April. The menu features Southern-fried chicken and corn bread. Portuguese, Southern English and a even a mixture of the two languages can be heard at the celebration.
