Chronology of the Brazilian Confederates

1861 1861
February 4th Congress of Montgomery at which South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida and Louisiana form the Confederate States of America (five more states join April-May).  Jefferson Davis elected President.
April 12th Confederates take Fort Sumter near Charleston, South Carolina. Civil War breaks out.
1862 1862
August 29th Second Battle of Bull Run, where Stonewall Jackson defeats Union Army.

September 22nd U.S. President Abraham Lincoln declares all slaves to be free (Emancipation Proclamation) on January 1, 1863.
1863 1863
January 1st Emancipation Proclamation takes effect
July 1st General Meade defeats General Robert E. Lee at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
November 23rd Confederates defeated at Chattanooga, TN.
1864 1864
September 1st Confederates abandon Atlanta, GA.
September 2nd General Sherman occupies Atlanta, GA.
1865 1865
April 9th General Lee surrenders to General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox.
April 14th U.S. President Abraham Lincoln assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. Andrew Johnson becomes President.
May 26th Surrender of last Confederate army at Shreveport, LA. U.S. Civil War ends.
