| This show was an experiment in collaborative directing. The cast spent some time discussing prevailing conceptions and misconceptions of Texans and contrasting these stereotypes to their own experiences. They then collected fiction, non-fiction, personal narratives, jokes, songs, and sayings about Texas. I had originally intended the performance to only be a loose collection of performances, but the students hit upon the idea of organizing the texts into a beauty shop setting. A non-Texan (played by the director) enters the establishment and receives a variety of perspectives on what it means to be a real Texan. The performance was an education!
