Dr. Lawrence R. Wheeless
Professor Emeritus
Personal Bio:
Professor Lawrence R. Wheeless (Ph.D. Wayne State University,
1970; M.A. University of Houston, 1967; B.A. Texas Christian
University, 1964) taught undergraduate courses in interpersonal
communication, relationship development, and nonverbal communication.
He also taught graduate courses in interpersonal communication,
communication theory, special topics, and quantitative research
methods. His colleagues call him Bud Wheeless and most
students refer to him as "Dr. Bud." He has taught
at the U. of Houston, Wayne State, Illinois State, West
Virginia U., Texas Tech, and Marshall U. Dr. Wheeless
has held offices in international and regional professional
communication associations and served in numerous editorial
positions for those organizations including Editor of Communication
Quarterly.
Research Interests:
Human Information Processing, Instructional Communication, Interpersonal
and Intimate Communication, Quantitative Research Methods, Persuasion,
Communication Theory, Organizational Communication, Decision-Making.
Notable Activities:
His scholarship includes the publication of 12 book chapters,
3 books, and over 50 scholarly journal articles. Twelve
of his 92 scholarly papers presented at meetings of professional
associations have received awards.
